The proposal was for a single storey extension to the rear of the property to replace the existing and form a new open plan kitchen-dinning area. The existing conservatory style extension was of poor quality: with a corrugated plastic mono pitch roof and additional windows that overlook the adjacent neighbouring gardens and houses. It was not suitably insulated, was a wasteful of energy and wasn’t useful during winter months.
The proposal was to make a greater use of the area with the addition of skylights and rear bi-fold doors improving the insulation, natural light and ventilation within the space, bringing the extension up the current regulations.
The changes to the lower ground floor also enhance the living accommodation of the family house. This renovations match the adjacent house in addition to the high level windows that contribute to a further improvement of the habitable space on the lower ground floor.
